Exhibits

Let the learning begin! Our exhibits are best experienced in-person.

Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

The exhibits shown here are just a few of the rich stories we tell at the SAAHC.

Barney L. Ford

During Denver's early years Barney Ford rose to become one of the wealthiest people in Colorado. Join us to learn more about his significant contributions to Colorado and Denver.

Black Astronauts

Did you know that are and have been over 24 highly accomplished individuals who have served as NASA astronauts? Come visit us to find out about all of them.

This exhibit is proudly sponsored by the Colorado Council of Black Nurses, Inc.

Bessie Coleman

Bessie Coleman was the first African American woman to earn a pilot's license. Our exhibit tells about her extraordinary life and dare devil airplane shows.

Black Inventors

The next time you use a cell phone, stop at a stop light, or eat a potato chip, you are doing so thanks to Black American inventors. Comes see our extensive inventors exhibit room and get used to saying "Wow! I didn't know that."

HBCUs and Black Educators

Because of Jim Crow laws and segregation, Black Americans were not typically allowed to attend schools, universities, and colleges for White Americans. Over the years, many dedicated Black educators and others created safe spaces so that African Americans could pursue their education.

Funded by the Denver Foundation.

Madam C.J. Walker

Madam C.J. Walker was the first woman of any race that became a millionaire in the U.S. When she lived in Denver, she used her time here to begin to build her very successful business. You just have to come and learn more about this courageous and successful business woman. Upgrades to this exhibit have been generously funded by the Denver Foundation.

The Presidential Room

Celebrate our first Black President and Vice President (as well as the first woman, Black/South Asian V.P.). Barack Obama was elected as the 44th President of the United States in 2008. Kamala Harris was elected as the 49th Vice President of the United States in 2020.
